Fujiyoshida, Japan 2023 Fuji Textile Week 2023 Chicago-based multidisciplinary artist Nelly Agassi has a special bond with the former Yamakano Building, where her first large-scale exhibition in Japan, “mountain wishes come true,” will be held. Until earlier this year, the former Yamakano was the center of the local Fujiyoshida community and industry, but now its stores and warehouses have been cleared and vacant. The former Yamakano Building is just one of many vacant stores and buildings in the city whose fate has yet to be decided. “mountain wishes come true” (a direct translation of the former company name and building) will be a forum for Agassi’s public dialogue with the former Yamakano Building and the surrounding area. She is a bridge between tradition and innovation, skillfully blending her unique artistic vision with local characteristics. She also uses physical and metaphysical elements such as time, memory, found objects, and imagination to touch upon the history of the space, its transformations, and its infinitely possible future. In the newly empty building, she will present a number of ongoing works and practices, as well as collaborations with people very close to her (such as her 10-year-old son Yona and her longtime sound collaborator Ryan Packard) and those she has met in recent months. The highlight of these collaborations is an installation piece that forms a "soft architecture" born out of a dialogue with the Yamanashi Industrial Technology Center, a local textile research institute. The piece seeks to softly transform the building's façade, which is the central motif of the building despite its faded color, into a brand new form and shape, exploring new states of matter. The dialogue and experimentation result in a fusion of artistic practice and local expertise. Through this work, we will witness the interaction between the artist, the space, and the local community that carries on the traditions.

出展作品タイトル： 《mountain wishes come true》Fujiyoshida, Japan 2023 Fuji Textile Week 2023シカゴを拠点とし、多領域を横断して活動する著名アーティスト、ネリー・アガシは、この度日本では初となる大規模作品展「mountain wishes come true」が開催される旧山叶ビルと特別な絆を結ぶこととなった。旧山叶は、今年の始めまで地元富士吉田のコミュニティと産業の中心的存在だったが、現在はその店舗と倉庫は整理され空いている。市内にはその他にも行く末がまだ決まっていない空き店舗や建屋があり、旧山叶ビルもそのうちに一つに過ぎない。 「mountain wishes come true − 山の願いは叶う」（旧社名・建物の直訳）は、アガシと旧山叶ビルやその周辺地域との対話を公開する場となる。彼女は伝統と革新の架け橋となり、独自の芸術的ビジョンと地元の特性を巧みに融合させている。また、時間、記憶、拾い物、想像力といった物理的かつ形而上学的な要素を用いて、空間の歴史、これまでの変遷、そして無限の可能性を秘めた未来に触れようとしている。 この度は新たに空っぽとなった建造物で、現在取り組んでいる作品や実践、そして、彼女と非常に親しい人たち（10歳の息子ヨナや、長年のサウンド・コラボレーターであるライアン・パッカードなど）や、ここ数ヶ月の間に出会った人たちとのコラボレーションを多数紹介する。 これらのコラボレーションのハイライトは、地元の繊維研究機関である山梨県産業技術センターとの対話から生まれた、「柔らかな建築」をかたちづくるインスタレーション作品である。色褪せつつも建物の中心的なモチーフとなるビルのファサードを、真新しい姿・形状に柔らかに変容させ、物質の新たな状態を探求しようとしている。そして、その対話と実験の末、芸術的な実践と地元の専門知識の融合が果たされている。この作品を通して、アーティストと空間、そして伝統を受け継ぐ地域社会との相互作用を目撃することとなるだろう。
